Our History

Built as a traditional blacksmith’s forge in the first half of the 1800s, the ambience at The Old Forge remains sympathetic to its history. Double entrance doors are still present, through which horses used to be led into the shop to be shoed, and large windows dominate the entire frontage of the Forge overlooking the ancient water fountain opposite. In place of the original forge’s furnace there now sits a welcoming stove fireplace with comfortable sofas for our guests to enjoy on colder days.
